The SmartCar is back...sort of...

Our boys now have their very own mode of transportation! Grandmama and Grandpapa Lau were very generous for the boys combined Birthday and Christmas present but left it to our discretion which motorized vehicle we would get for them. We'd been leaning towards something in the John Deere or Truck range, but then found out about the SmartCar from one of the parenting magazines we get. Since we'd had a SmartCar in Germany and LOVED it, it was too good to pass up, especially when we were at the Base Exchange last week and THERE IT WAS!

We'd been waiting for the BX to get things like this in stock for the Christmas season as purchasing something like this off base would have cost a lot in taxes and we are fortunate to not pay tax on base. Limited selection, but very worth it when making big purchases like this. We're very grateful that that is a benefit of Vin's military service and it helps so much since we're on one income while I stay at home and raise our boys. That's another wonderful thing we are so grateful for!

As you can see from the pictures, the boys just didn't know what to do with this and were really just not excited about having their own vehicle...NOT! They were completely and whole-heartedly STOKED! See for yourselves...
Does that EVER look like an evil and conspiratorial grin on each of their faces or what?
"Alex, as soon as we get into the country, you're history. Then the SmartCar can be mine all MINE! BWA HA HA HA!!!"
"No really. Laugh it up little bro. If only you knew what was coming." (snicker)
Sweet smiles although rather forced b/c they were getting tired of the picture taking.
One last valiant effort at cheesy grins.
Not sure what this is. Maybe they're getting car-jacked by Vin?
"Seriously Bren, how long DOES she expect to keep these smiles on our faces and WHEN can we just drive this thing?"
"Maybe if you press that button it will move."
"Dude, that's my leg not a gear shift. Let go or I'll bite your hand off."
So crazy as Vin is, we got home from the BX around 6:30pm and he assembled the SmartCar for the boys and trying to get them to bed was rather interesting that night. Not to mention the fact that the battery needed 18 hrs. to charge and the boys were whining to stay up till it was ready so they could drive their new ride. They did FINALLY get to drive it the next morning and I have more pics and video to post later.
Bren's a real natural with it just like his dad and Alex scares the life out of us when he's behind the wheel, and I'm sure Vin would say, "Just like his mom." Hardee har har.
BIG thanks from the boys to their G & G Lau. They sooo LOVE it! Oh yeah and the next day after they got it and Bren had done so well with driving it, we had to go run some errands and Bren told me he'd drive my truck very nonchalantly. Never mind his feet don't reach my pedals. Silly little details. I'm not looking forward to 12 yrs. from now when it's time to actually teach him how to drive. EEK!
